RTX unit Pratt & Whitney wins $1.3 billion contract to sustain F135 engines

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. — Pratt & Whitney has been awarded a nearly $1.3 billion undefinitized, Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity contract to supply F135 engine spare parts for the F-35 Lightning II, which the engine powers across all three aircraft variants.

The award covers fiscal year 2026 requirements including initial spares, deployable spare packages, depot lay-ins, and related support equipment for both U.S. and international F-35 operators.

“Ensuring the F135 remains mission-ready is critical to the success of the F-35 enterprise,” said Chris Johnson, vice president of Pratt & Whitney’s F135 Program. “This contract will help strengthen our global sustainment network to ensure operators around the world can continue to rely on the F135’s unmatched performance.”

The company’s sustainment footprint includes multiple depot facilities and support for operations at 42 bases and 13 ships worldwide, with maintenance, logistics, and technical capabilities positioned to back F-35 fleets across regions.

Pratt & Whitney has delivered more than 1,500 F135 production engines to customers in 20 allied nations. The forthcoming F135 Engine Core Upgrade—selected as the propulsion modernization path for the F-35—will utilize the established sustainment network with the aim of improving readiness while providing a cost-effective, long-term capability.
