Applications are open through July 31 for Class 27A of the Department of the Air Force’s Acquisition Instructor Course, a selective 5.5-month, in-residence program scheduled for Jan. 4 to June 11, 2027, that targets top-performing acquisition officers and civilians.
Patterned after the rigor and methods of the U.S. Air Force Weapons School, the course is intended to cultivate tactical acquisition leaders and integrators who can better connect the acquisition and operational communities. Participants will complete more than 300 hours of academics spanning program management, systems engineering, contracting and leadership, plus over 200 hours focused on warfighter capabilities and employment.
Eligibility spans both military and civilian acquisition professionals:
– Military officers: AFSC 61X, 62E and 63A captains or majors with 4 to 8 years of service; AFSC 64P and 65F/W captains with 4 to 8 years of service.
– Civilians: GS-12/13, NH-03 or DR-3 (non-supervisory) in acquisition-coded series (13XX, 08XX, 1101, 1102, 0501, 1515) with 4 to 10 years of acquisition experience.
All nominees must hold, or be eligible to obtain, a Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information clearance, and nomination packages require endorsement from the nominee’s first O-6 or civilian equivalent. Graduates will earn a Special Experience Identifier and incur a three-year service commitment, with expectations to make sustained contributions to the acquisition community and the AQIC schoolhouse.
