Active-duty Air Force aviators have a two-month window, from April 1 through May 31, to apply for the fiscal year 2026 aviation bonus, officials announced April 1.
The AvB program continues the service’s push to retain experienced “rated” officers by offering financial incentives to certain pilots, remotely piloted aircraft pilots, air battle managers, and combat systems officers in exchange for additional active-duty service. The goal is to sustain a reliable pipeline of seasoned aircrew to meet operational demands.
“Our Airmen are extremely talented, with critical skills that are highly sought after,” said Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Ken Wilsbach. “The aviation bonus is an incentive that helps us retain expertise and ensures we have the right mix of experienced aviators to meet warfighting demands today and into the future.”
For FY26, the Air Force has increased payouts for shorter service commitments in specific communities, notably fighter, bomber, and U-2. Contracts range from three to 12 years, with annual payments as high as $50,000, depending on specialty and experience.
Eligibility extends to officers at the rank of lieutenant colonel and below who are qualified for operational flying duty and currently receiving monthly aviation incentive pay. The bonus is available to active-duty Airmen and to Air Reserve Component members serving under the Voluntary Limited Period of Active Duty program.
Airmen who apply can expect payment within about three weeks after final approval and processing by the Defense Finance and Accounting Service. Full eligibility criteria and application steps are posted on the MyFSS website for users with Common Access Card credentials.
