FORT STEWART, Ga. — Five soldiers were wounded in a shooting Wednesday inside the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team area at Fort Stewart, according to base officials. All five received initial care at the scene and were then taken to Winn Army Community Hospital. Their conditions were not immediately released.
Authorities said there was no ongoing danger to the broader community following the attack. Law enforcement responded to reports of a possible shooting in the 2nd ABCT complex at 10:56 a.m. local time. The installation entered lockdown at 11:04 a.m., and emergency medical teams arrived at 11:09 a.m. The suspected shooter was taken into custody at 11:35 a.m.
Fort Stewart lifted the lockdown for the main cantonment area at 12:10 p.m., officials said. The 2nd ABCT complex remained secured as investigators continued their work.
The Army said the incident remains under investigation and that additional details will be released when available.
Brig. Gen. John W. Lubas, Fort Stewart’s commanding general, briefed reporters on post Wednesday afternoon.
Fort Stewart, located in southeast Georgia, is home to the Army’s 3rd Infantry Division.
