U.S. Southern Command directed a lethal kinetic strike on May 8 against a vessel in the Eastern Pacific operated by groups designated as terrorist organizations, the command said. The operation was carried out by Joint Task Force Southern Spear.
Intelligence indicated the vessel was moving along known narco-trafficking routes and engaged in trafficking operations, according to the command. Two men described as narco-terrorists were killed, and one person survived the strike.
After the engagement, U.S. Southern Command said it notified the U.S. Coast Guard to activate search and rescue efforts for the survivor. No U.S. military forces were harmed.
