The Department of War has awarded ten Defense Community Infrastructure Program grants through the Office of Local Defense Community Cooperation, totaling approximately $90 million, according to a department press release.
The Defense Community Infrastructure Program funds off-base infrastructure that supports the missions, readiness and quality of life associated with military installations and the communities that host them. Administered by the Office of Local Defense Community Cooperation, the program provides federal support to local governments, utilities and other eligible entities for projects that serve both installations and surrounding residents.
The department did not immediately release the list of recipients or descriptions of the projects funded in this round. Details on locations, timelines, and any local cost-sharing were not included in the announcement.
In previous funding cycles, DCIP dollars have supported road improvements near installation gates, water and wastewater upgrades, emergency response facilities, childcare and school capacity, and projects that strengthen resilience to natural hazards—investments aimed at improving both community services and installation readiness.
The latest awards continue federal efforts to bolster critical infrastructure outside installation boundaries, where local systems can directly influence day-to-day operations and the well-being of service members and their families. Further information on the new grants is expected from the Office of Local Defense Community Cooperation.
