The Department of War announced today that the War Data Platform has received an unmodified System and Organization Controls (SOC) 1 Type 2 opinion covering November 17, 2025, through June 30, 2026.
The independent review found that the platform’s internal controls over financial reporting were suitably designed and operated effectively during the examination period. Hosted in an Impact Level 5 environment, the platform’s clean opinion provides assurance on system integrity and is expected to reduce audit testing for financial systems and user entities across the Department that rely on it.
Officials credited the outcome to collaboration among the Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office, the Office of the Under Secretary of War (Comptroller), and the Department of the Navy.
“Achieving a clean SOC-1 Type 2 opinion for the WDP is a testament to the relentless hard work and collaboration across the CDAO, our Financial System Modernization and Innovation team, and our Navy partners,” said Tom Harker, Deputy Chief Financial Officer. “Reliable data is the bedrock of financial accountability. This milestone not only validates the rigor of our internal controls but significantly accelerates our momentum toward achieving a clean, enterprise-wide financial audit by 2028.”
As the Department’s data foundation, the WDP underpins enterprise-wide data needs tied to strategic audit requirements. Leaders emphasized an ongoing focus on data integrity and financial accountability, calling the unmodified opinion a measurable step in modernizing data infrastructure and bolstering confidence in systems that support both mission execution and financial reporting.
The Department framed the development as another concrete gain as it advances a refreshed audit strategy.
