The Navy’s top enlisted post will change hands in September, when Perryman, currently the senior enlisted leader for U.S. Fleet Forces Command, is set to relieve Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy James Honea at a change of office ceremony at the Navy Memorial in Washington, D.C., according to the service.
In the MCPON role, Perryman will serve as the senior enlisted adviser to Navy leadership, help shape policy affecting sailors and their families, and focus on the force’s readiness as the service navigates intensifying global competition.
Perryman entered the Navy in 1994 and built his career as an electronics technician in the submarine force. His sea duty includes assignments aboard USS Bremerton (SSN 698), USS Dolphin (AGSS 555), and USS Cheyenne (SSN 773). He later served as command master chief aboard USS Hawaii (SSN 776) and held senior enlisted positions at several flag staffs, including Commander, Submarine Force U.S. Pacific Fleet; Commander, Submarine Group Seven; Commander, Submarine Force Atlantic; and U.S. Strategic Command.
The transition will place a veteran submariner with extensive operational and staff experience at the helm of the enlisted ranks during a period of heightened demands on the fleet.
