The Center for Development of Security Excellence, a training and education provider within the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency, has launched the 2025 National Insider Threat Awareness Month website, kicking off this year’s campaign with a focus on collaboration to combat insider risks.
Since its inception in 2019, the initiative has convened insider threat and security professionals worldwide to elevate awareness and deliver training and educational materials. “NITAM is an opportunity to put insider threat awareness at the forefront of everyone’s mind, reinforce the need to remain vigilant, and renew commitment to identifying and preventing threats before they escalate,” the CDSE director said.
CDSE said the effort emphasizes recognizing and reporting indicators and points to a growing appetite for resources: the NITAM site logged more than 30,000 visits last year. The portal offers tools to help organizations implement and strengthen insider threat programs across their enterprises. “NITAM is CDSE’s opportunity to showcase how extraordinarily important insider threat training and awareness is,” said Ed Kobeski, CDSE’s Vetting and Threat Branch Chief.
This year’s theme, Partnering for Progress, underscores the role of teamwork and information-sharing in detecting, preventing, and responding to insider threats, with the goal of building more resilient organizations. “We really must leverage the partnerships and expertise of others to bridge resource gaps because it’s not something we’re going to be able to address from one group,” she said. “Networking is essential in building that community of practice which goes hand-in-hand with collaboration. It’s an individual responsibility, but it’s also a shared responsibility. It encourages the culture that we’re all in this together.”
