Pratt & Whitney is investing more than $100 million across three U.S. maintenance, repair and overhaul facilities to expand capacity and speed turnaround for its GTF engine fleet. “These investments demonstrate Pratt & Whitney’s continued commitment to lifting our airline customers’ GTF fleets,” said Rob Griffiths, senior vice president, Commercial Engines Operations, Pratt & Whitney. “Across these three U.S. facilities, we are investing to increase throughput of GTF engines and parts, adding repair capabilities and deploying new technologies to return engines to our customers as quickly as possible.”
The largest outlay, $78 million in Irving, Texas, supports a new 500,000-square-foot Commercial Serviceable Assets facility that buys, sells and manages used serviceable material and engines. The site is intended to lift USM stock by more than 60% to help cut engine turnaround time and will also expand part repair development and MRO quick-turn capacity.
In West Palm Beach, Florida, a $20 million project added roughly 50,000 square feet to the Engine Center, increasing GTF MRO capacity by 40%. The expansion brings new equipment for engine assembly and disassembly, machining, testing, cleaning and warehousing.
A $4.7 million expansion in Springdale, Arkansas, adds 7,000 square feet to the Propulsion Systems Division for additional commercial and military engine case repairs. New equipment there will enable GTF additive manufacturing repairs expected to reduce process time by more than 60%.
Earlier this year, the company opened an 81,000-square-foot GTF MRO expansion at its Columbus Engine Center in Columbus, Georgia. The $70 million investment added advanced equipment and machinery, boosting the facility’s annual capacity by more than 25% and providing additional overhaul volume for the growing fleet.
The GTF MRO network now consists of 21 global engine centers and approximately 40 component repair facilities. The GTF engine is the most fuel-efficient choice for the single aisle market. To date, more than 2,700 GTF-powered aircraft have been delivered to over 90 customers worldwide, with 13,000 engine orders and commitments in total across all platforms.
