MCLEAN, Va. — Booz Allen has released a threat report that debuts a Cyber Weapon Index and introduces Vellox Labs Guile, a Counter AI product aimed at disrupting autonomous cyberattacks.
The report, titled The Offensive Frontier: AI as the Attacker, draws on the firm’s Cyber Weapon Index to evaluate how fast-evolving AI models are reshaping offensive cyber operations. Booz Allen said it tested 18 advanced U.S. and Chinese AI models and found that a leading frontier system can now carry out an end-to-end intrusion autonomously—from initial access through taking full control of a network—without human guidance. The firm characterized this as a shift from AI-assisted hacking to fully autonomous operations.
Findings outlined by Booz Allen warn that sophisticated attacks are becoming easier to launch as cost, time, and expertise barriers fall, broadening access for criminal and non-state actors. The assessment also flags immediate exposure for critical infrastructure and urges enforceable, sector-specific deadlines that would require operators to prove readiness against AI-enabled attacks.
The analysis argues that risk now resides in the overall system—when models are paired with tools, memory, autonomy, and attack harnesses—rather than in the standalone model. It also highlights opportunities for defenders to exploit the same autonomy that benefits AI attackers. In internal testing, Booz Allen said coordinated Counter AI playbooks cut autonomous attacker success rates by more than 95%.
To operationalize those defenses, the company unveiled Vellox Labs Guile, designed to degrade autonomous attackers by shaping what they see and trust. Booz Allen said Guile adapts with emerging threats, learns from real-world activity, and leverages the latest frontier AI models to evolve protections in real time for mission-critical assets.
The firm describes a unified approach to countering AI-driven threats: measuring capability through the Cyber Weapon Index, defining how defenders can reclaim advantage with Counter AI, and executing that strategy through Vellox Labs Guile.
The full report, The Offensive Frontier: AI as the Attacker, is available on the company’s website. Booz Allen describes itself as an advanced technology company that develops commercial-grade products and solutions for defense, civil, and national security priorities.
