CAMP HUMPHREYS, South Korea — Maj. Gen. Gavin Gardner, commanding general of the 8th Theater Sustainment Command, completed a weeklong visit to the Republic of Korea from April 4-11 focused on leader engagements, battlefield circulations, and reviews of logistics and sustainment infrastructure that underpin security on the peninsula.
The itinerary included meetings with counterparts from United States Forces Korea, Eighth Army, and the 2nd Infantry Division/ROK-U.S. Combined Division, alongside stops at key logistics hubs and industry partners tied to force readiness.
In Busan, Gardner toured Pier 8 with the Republic of Korea Transportation Command, highlighting U.S.-ROK integration at a strategic seaport that manages the flow of military supplies and equipment. He also visited the Camp Carroll Combat Power Generation Center to observe capabilities that support maintenance and readiness of military equipment.
Recognizing the role of industry in defense, Gardner’s engagements included Korean Air Lines and Hanwha Aerospace, underscoring the importance of the defense industrial base to collective security in the region.
While in Daegu, Gardner toured the Market 19 autonomous kitchen at Camp Walker, showcased as one of Eighth Army’s modernization efforts. He also met with Soldiers and civilians of the 411th Contracting Support Brigade at Camp Humphreys and with Soldiers of the 71st Chemical Company at Camp Casey.
Gardner emphasized the centrality of the shared U.S.-ROK logistics enterprise to alliance strength. “Our capacity to sustain the force, in close partnership with our Korean allies and industry partners, serves as a powerful deterrent and is essential to ensuring lasting stability throughout this vital region,” said Gardner.
The 8th Theater Sustainment Command, headquartered at Fort Shafter, Hawaii, synchronizes and executes logistics and supply chain management for the U.S. Army across the Indo-Pacific. Eighth Army, headquartered at Camp Humphreys, is the U.S. Army’s forward-deployed field army in the Indo-Pacific and is committed to maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula while strengthening the U.S.-ROK alliance through combined training, readiness, and partnership.
