Air Force undersecretary visits Tyndall Air Force Base amid reconstruction

Under Secretary of the Air Force Matt Lohmeier visited Tyndall Air Force Base on Aug. 13 to review how the 325th Fighter Wing is sustaining high-tempo operations while advancing a multibillion-dollar rebuild aimed at creating the service’s “Installation of the Future.”

During the daylong immersion near Panama City, Florida, Lohmeier toured facilities and met with leaders from the Air Force Civil Engineer Center and the Special Programs Division to discuss infrastructure modernization, mission support, and long-term resilience. He also spoke with Airmen across the installation about capability needs tied to the wing’s mission.

“Readiness starts with a warfighter mindset and a commitment to excellence at every level,” Lohmeier said. “Seeing firsthand how our Airmen at Tyndall maintain high-tempo flight operations amid a massive construction footprint demonstrates the resilience and agility required for high-end conflict. This is one great example of how we project lethal airpower.”

Officials briefed Lohmeier on current flight operations supporting a fleet of 26 F-35A Lightning II aircraft, force generation timelines, and plans to base two additional fighter squadrons in the near term. Discussions with AFCEC and Special Programs Division leadership also covered sustainment efforts intended to preserve operational viability and harden the installation against environmental and strategic threats.

The visit underscored the department’s focus on integrating reconstruction with daily flying operations and affirmed Tyndall’s role in projecting global airpower as the rebuild progresses.
