Lillian Gardner, a veteran acquisition leader whose career at the Defense Logistics Agency spanned nearly four decades, will be inducted into the agency’s 2026 Hall of Fame next week.
Gardner joined the federal workforce in 1983 as an inventory management specialist at DLA Troop Support and went on to hold a series of leadership roles across the agency’s supply chains. She led supplier operations for the Continental U.S. Subsistence Prime Vendor Program and later directed supplier operations for the Construction and Equipment portfolio, where she helped shape buying strategies for items such as marine lifesaving and diving equipment, tactical gear and firefighting equipment.
Her work included advancing the Unified Tray Program, a 14-day meal rotation that supports warfighters. In 2012, Gardner was appointed director of the DLA Acquisition Contracting Services Office. Under her leadership, the office increased its obligations to $1.53 billion in fiscal 2021 and awarded the DLA Information Operations Enterprise Technology Services contract, a $6 billion effort that delivers IT services across the agency.
According to her nomination, submitted by DLA Acquisition Director Matthew Beebe, Gardner’s guidance and oversight were key to modernizing the agency’s business transformation. Beebe also credited her as a contracting role model who mentored and developed hundreds of acquisition professionals now serving the DLA mission.
Gardner’s induction is among five honors being celebrated this year. The Hall of Fame ceremony is scheduled for 1 p.m. on May 7 at the McNamara Headquarters Complex auditorium on Fort Belvoir, Virginia. The event is open to all DLA employees and does not require an invitation.
