Officials draft want list for reusing military property

The Defense Logistics Agency is urging eligible organizations to use a new customization feature in its property reuse portal to secure excess equipment quickly and at no cost. Through DLA Disposition Services’ Reutilization, Transfer, and Donation program, military units and approved non-defense customers can build a tailored RTD Want List in RTDWeb that automatically alerts them when desired items appear in the agency’s rotating inventory.

Agency officials say the approach can curb procurement spending, speed up sourcing, and support sustainability by extending the life of taxpayer-funded equipment. Participants receive immediate notifications when matching property becomes available, helping them act on first-come, first-served requests.

To participate, screeners must first be registered and approved for RTDWeb access via the DLA Account Management and Provisioning System (AMPS). Once in the system, users can search for property and create a list by adding items in several ways: entering known National Stock Numbers (with the option to upload as many as 70,000 NIINs/NSNs at once), using a smart word search for item names, or browsing by Federal Supply Class. Users can refine results by condition code, geographic location, and desired quantities, then schedule automated email notifications based on those criteria. DLA encourages customers to review and update their lists regularly to keep them aligned with current needs.

The agency emphasizes that acquiring reutilized, transferred, or donated property through the program is free, though some donation recipients may incur state-assessed fees.
