Active duty and reserve Sailors will soon get dedicated help covering uniform costs: beginning April 23, 2026, those with a MILITARY STAR Card will automatically receive a $1,000 line of credit specifically for uniform purchases. Eligibility for the new line is tied to the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS) rather than a credit score.
The uniform line offers zero-percent financing for 12 months on each qualifying purchase made at Navy Exchange (NEX) locations, up to the $1,000 limit. Cardholders must make 12 equal payments for each transaction to retire the balance within a year.
The program’s terms carry a warning for those who fall behind. Missed payments may affect a Sailor’s credit history if minimum payments are not made for three consecutive months, according to the announcement.
If a purchase exceeds the $1,000 uniform line, Sailors can use another payment method to cover the remainder, including their MILITARY STAR account, which frequently features promotional zero-percent interest offers.
New applicants can choose a uniform-only MILITARY STAR account, a standard account, or both. Those who apply for the standard account and meet eligibility for the uniform line will automatically receive both credit lines.
The initiative aims to reduce out-of-pocket strain for required uniform items, a recurring cost across a Sailor’s career, while keeping financing charges down when payments are made on schedule.
Applications are available in-store and online at https://www.myecp.com/, where full program terms and conditions are posted.
