The Navy says it has finished installing free, high-speed Wi‑Fi in 90 percent of its unaccompanied housing, with service now active in 865 of 962 buildings since the rollout began in November 2025.
The effort, run jointly by Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) and the Navy Exchange Service Command, has expanded across bases in the continental United States as well as in Europe, Asia, and the Pacific. The initiative is billed as a quality‑of‑life and readiness measure intended to keep Sailors connected to family, support networks, and education while stationed at home and abroad.
“Reliable connectivity is an important part of sustaining the force and ensuring Sailors have the support they need to remain ready and resilient,” said Adm. Scott Gray, Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for the Office of Navy Sustainment. “This milestone demonstrates the Navy’s continued investment in the infrastructure and services that enable our people to focus on the mission, wherever they serve.”
Vice Adm. Brad Collins, who leads CNIC, said the command intends to carry the project through to completion while continuing broader shore‑infrastructure improvements. “Across 71 installations, our responsibility is clear: deliver the safe, resilient, and reliable shore infrastructure and services Sailors need to succeed,” Collins said. “Completing this Wi‑Fi initiative remains a priority, and we will build on this progress to raise the standard of service, strengthen quality of life, and ensure our shore enterprise keeps pace with the needs of a ready naval force.”
Roughly 10 percent of unaccompanied housing remains to be connected, primarily at remote locations such as Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, and Naval Support Facility Diego Garcia. Those sites are slated for fiscal year 2027, contingent on backbone and base infrastructure work.
The program provides filtered free Wi‑Fi and offers subsidized higher‑speed tiers without long‑term contracts or termination fees, in line with the Military Honor and Decency Act of 1996. Program managers report smooth network operations and direct Sailors with connection problems to the provider’s help desk.
Details on service availability are posted at www.navymwrsinglesailor.com. CNIC oversees Navy shore installation management across 10 regions and 70 installations with a workforce of more than 63,000.
