ONR sets innovation industry days for Sept. 21–25

The Office of Naval Research plans to host a weeklong Innovation Industry Days forum in Arlington, Va., from Sept. 21–25, 2026, aiming to accelerate development of future Navy and Marine Corps capabilities by unveiling science and technology roadmaps stretching 15 years out.

ONR officials and program officers will brief participants on key technology portfolios, take questions, and hold one-on-one office hours. The event is designed to identify and close projected technology gaps while drawing in traditional defense contractors as well as commercial and other nontraditional partners.

“Innovation Industry Days present an excellent opportunity to collaborate with industry and discuss the Navy and Marine Corps’ most pressing research needs and challenges,” said Chief of Naval Research Dr. Rachel Riley. “This sharing of knowledge will empower us to continue to shape the future, overcome hurdles and deliver dominant warfighting capabilities to the Fleet and Force.”

Focus areas slated for discussion include:
– Artificial Intelligence and Autonomy
– Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C5ISR) and Naval Space
– Directed Energy and Kinetic Systems
– Materials and Electronics
– Human and Biological Systems
– Manufacturing
– Naval Engineering
– Naval Aerospace
– Ocean Atmosphere and Space
– Power and Energy
– Undersea Systems

Registration is required, free of charge, and closes Friday, Aug. 21 at 4 p.m. Eastern. Walk-ins will not be accepted, and registrants will be notified of the specific focus-area day they are assigned during the week.
