NORAD and USNORTHCOM hold talks to strengthen ties with SHAPE and USEUCOM

PETERSON SPACE FORCE BASE, Colo. — The headquarters of NORAD and U.S. Northern Command hosted staff talks with NATO’s Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe and U.S. European Command on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, to strengthen professional ties, increase information sharing, and identify new avenues for collaboration among the commands and their forces.

Discussions covered operational coordination, campaign integration, exercise planning, warfighting and crisis or contingency planning, alignment of strategic messaging, and data-sharing initiatives. Participants examined ways to refine recurring coordination, improve how the headquarters interface, support future operations, and expand cooperation in the Arctic and Atlantic regions.

With the Arctic marked by adjacent and overlapping command responsibilities, and a resulting need for synchronized responses, the talks placed particular emphasis on integration and campaigning in the region. Central to that focus was NORAD and USNORTHCOM’s continued development of the Nordic Bridge concept, designed to tighten coordination with SHAPE, EUCOM, and other partners, improve domain awareness, enhance interoperability, and better align activities across the Arctic and North Atlantic. The approach highlights how distinct commands can achieve greater effects by carrying out their separate missions and authorities in concert.

The visit reaffirmed a shared commitment by the four headquarters to sustained engagement and deeper cooperation. Expanding information exchange, reinforcing professional relationships, and aligning efforts across staffs are expected to enable more effective campaigning, raise operational readiness, and improve the ability to respond together in support of North American and transatlantic security objectives.
