U.S. Africa Command carried out a strike targeting an al-Shabaab conventional weapons storage warehouse in northern Somalia on Sept. 17, in coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia.
The strike took place in Somalia’s Sanaag region, about 80 kilometers southwest of Bosaso.
AFRICOM said it continues to work with the Somali government and Somali Armed Forces to degrade al-Shabaab’s ability to threaten U.S. forces and American citizens abroad. The command said specific details about the units and assets involved would not be released to protect operational security.
