U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) carried out airstrikes against al-Shabaab on June 15 and 16, 2026, in collaboration with the Federal Government of Somalia. The strikes targeted the militant group in the vicinity of Route 109, approximately 73 kilometers northwest of Kismayo Airport.
In an ongoing effort to diminish al-Shabaab’s capacity to pose threats to U.S. forces and citizens abroad, AFRICOM is working closely with the Somali Armed Forces. To maintain operational security, no specific details regarding the units and assets involved in the airstrikes have been disclosed.
