U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) is set to resume blockading maritime traffic related to Iranian ports, effective July 14 at 4 p.m. ET. This action aims to enforce restrictions on vessels transiting to or from Iranian coastal areas while ensuring the continued flow of traffic for compliant vessels within the region.
The blockade, which also aims to bolster regional security, follows a prior two-month period from April 13 to June 18. During that time, CENTCOM redirected over 140 vessels that adhered to the guidelines, intervened with nine non-compliant ships, and permitted more than 50 commercial vessels providing humanitarian aid to pass through the blockade.
Mariners operating in the Gulf of Oman and the Strait of Hormuz are advised to stay vigilant by monitoring Notice to Mariners broadcasts. They should also utilize bridge-to-bridge channel 16 to communicate with U.S. naval forces during their transits.
