Lockheed Martin and Insta to establish Europe’s first MLRS CFCS sustainment centre

Lockheed Martin and Finnish technology company Insta are moving ahead with plans to establish what they say will be Europe’s first maintenance and sustainment hub for the fire control systems used on M270A2 and HIMARS launchers, to be located at Insta’s facility in Tampere, Finland. The initiative is intended to bolster regional sustainment readiness for operators across Europe and is linked to the indirect industrial cooperation associated with Finland’s F-35 program.

The M270A2, manufactured by Lockheed Martin, is a tracked heavy rocket launcher system. Building a Finnish capability to service its fire control system is aimed at strengthening national expertise, ensuring security of supply and maintaining system availability throughout its lifecycle.

For Insta, the new capability represents a step forward in its European sustainment and lifecycle support business and is positioned to deepen international cooperation between Finland and allied nations.

For customers, the capability is expected to improve system availability and strengthen continuity of operations. Lifecycle planning, spare parts support, obsolescence management and technical assistance are intended to reduce downtime and maintain operational readiness.

The effort follows a memorandum of understanding the companies signed last December during the roll-out ceremony of the first of Finland’s 64 F-35A fighters. Insta, a strategic partner of the Finnish Defence Forces, is building long-term maintenance and lifecycle support capability for the avionics systems of Finland’s F-35 fleet.
