The U.S. State Department has approved a possible $80.1 million Foreign Military Sale to Greece for loitering munitions and related equipment, advancing a plan to supply the Hellenic Armed Forces with 350 Switchblade 300 Block 20 systems and 35 associated fire control systems, according to a government notice labeled Transmittal 26-76.

In addition to the Switchblade 300 Block 20 Lethal Miniature Aerial Missile Systems, the prospective package includes non‑major defense items tied to the larger Switchblade 600 line—such as Selective Availability Anti‑Spoofing Module (SAASM) GPS units and fire control systems—along with tactical and smart battery chargers, spare parts, training, and U.S. government and contractor engineering, technical, and logistics support.

Washington said the sale would bolster the security of a NATO ally and improve Greece’s ability to deter current and future threats, support coalition operations, and enhance interoperability with U.S. forces. The State Department also said the package would not alter the basic military balance in the region and that Greece would have no difficulty integrating the systems.

AeroVironment Inc. of Simi Valley, California, is named as the principal contractor. No offset arrangements have been identified; any such agreements would be negotiated directly between Greece and the contractor.

The notice says the sale’s implementation would not require assigning additional U.S. government or contractor personnel to Greece. As with all Foreign Military Sales, the approval marks a potential deal that would still be subject to standard U.S. congressional review.

Switchblade systems are man‑portable, tube‑launched loitering munitions designed to provide rapid precision strikes. The 300 series is typically used against light targets and personnel, while the larger 600 variant is engineered for heavier, armored targets. U.S. forces field both types, and the systems have seen growing interest among U.S. allies seeking cost‑effective precision capabilities.
