Peru chooses L3Harris electronic warfare system for F-16 fleet

CLIFTON, N.J. — L3Harris Technologies has been selected by the government of Peru to supply its Viper Shield electronic warfare system for the country’s F-16 Block 70 aircraft program, a move aimed at boosting protection against radars, missiles and other electronic threats.

Peru’s acquisition is intended to strengthen both offensive and defensive capabilities for its new F-16 Block 70 fleet and align the aircraft’s electronic warfare features with those used by other nations operating the same variant, supporting allied interoperability.

“We are focused on providing Peru with a low-risk EW solution through the active production line, flight test program and supply chain,” said Christopher Aebli, President, Communications & Spectrum Dominance, L3Harris. “Eight nations have selected Viper Shield, and we’re ramping up to full-rate production of 233 systems.”

Developed in partnership with Lockheed Martin and the U.S. Air Force, Viper Shield offers multiple installation paths, including integration on Block 70/72 jets, a retrofit option for earlier F-16 blocks, and an external pod. The system is software-defined and designed for straightforward upgrades to keep pace with evolving threats.
