APRA HARBOR, Guam — The Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72), flagship of Carrier Strike Group 3, arrived in Guam on Sept. 19 for a brief logistics stop alongside the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Frank E. Petersen Jr. (DDG 121). Embarked staffs from Carrier Air Wing 9 and Destroyer Squadron 21 are also in port.
The visit to Naval Base Guam marks Carrier Strike Group 3 personnel’s first return to American soil in nine months, with sailors authorized on-base liberty during the stop.
Both ships previously called at Guam in December 2025. They returned to the U.S. Pacific Command area of responsibility after operating for nearly seven months in the U.S. Central Command area. Earlier this month, Abraham Lincoln visited Laem Chabang, Thailand, and Frank E. Petersen Jr. visited Si Racha, Thailand, from Sept. 2–6.
Guam, part of the U.S. homeland, serves as a key hub for command and control, logistics, and power projection in the Indo-Pacific. Its infrastructure supports enhanced logistics for numerous forward-deployed U.S. military units, including aircraft carriers and their strike group combatants.
The Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group is conducting routine operations in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations, working with allies and partners to uphold a free, open, connected, prosperous, secure, and resilient Indo-Pacific. Units assigned to 7th Fleet conduct continuous patrols to deter aggression and strengthen alliances and partnerships.
