Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has directed the termination of certain collective bargaining agreements, citing Executive Order 14251, “Exclusions from Federal Labor-Management Relations Programs.” Signed on April 9, 2026, the memorandum is intended to keep operations aligned with national security requirements and mission readiness.
Under the directive, agreements not under a court order will be ended within 24 hours, with limited exceptions required by law. The Under Secretary of War for Personnel and Readiness has issued supplemental guidance to support implementation.
Department leadership will work with legal and human resources officials to manage the transition and ensure full compliance.
