The Department of War launched Starshield AI’s Grok for Government on GenAI.mil, expanding the suite of frontier AI capabilities available to personnel across the force. Accredited for Controlled Unclassified Information at Impact Level 5, the tool is engineered for secure, consistent enterprise use.

The deployment is intended to deliver immediate productivity gains, strengthen knowledge continuity and support more secure, efficient collaboration. By integrating Starshield AI’s model into GenAI.mil, users gain access to deep-thinking inference, adaptive reasoning modes—Auto, Fast and Expert—customizable workspaces, persistent projects and reusable “playbooks” that capture and scale institutional knowledge. The capability is described as enabling the Joint Force to execute missions faster and with greater precision in contexts ranging from market research analysis for acquisition professionals to supply chain management for logisticians.

The move advances the Department’s AI Acceleration Strategy and its emphasis on enterprise AI applications. GenAI.mil has onboarded more than 1.7 million unique users in nine months out of a workforce of more than 3 million, and the addition of Grok for Government is framed as another top-tier generative AI tool for warfighter advantage, eliminating vendor lock and promoting a vibrant American AI ecosystem.

Through the Chief Digital and AI Office and the Office of the Under Secretary of War for Research and Engineering, the Department plans to continue scaling frontier AI as a force multiplier across the Joint Force. The launch supports the White House’s AI Action Plan and reinforces the Department’s commitment to leading the adoption of AI for warfighter mission sets and decision superiority.
