After Hill, Utah go-live, DLA Distribution completes global warehouse overhaul and turns to stabilization

The Defense Logistics Agency has finished a yearslong overhaul of its warehouse software, completing the final transition to a modern Warehouse Management System at DLA Distribution Hill, Utah, and closing out a rollout that spans all 24 distribution sites worldwide.

With the deployment phase concluded, the command is pivoting to network stabilization and optimization to ensure steady support to the joint force while tapping more of the system’s capabilities, officials said.

“The WMS go-live at DLA Distribution Hill is a significant milestone for our global modernization efforts,” said Army Brig. Gen. Kevin Cotman, DLA Distribution commanding general. “The team at Hill and our experts across the enterprise built on the lessons learned from our other 23 sites to make this deployment a success.”

The modernization effort began in June 2018 with a pilot at DLA Distribution Corpus Christi, Texas, and progressively replaced the legacy Distribution Standard System with an SAP-based platform at Army, Navy and Marine Corps support sites. Major hubs such as DLA Distribution San Joaquin, California, and locations in Germany, South Korea, Japan and Italy followed.

As the schedule reached DLA Distribution Susquehanna, Pennsylvania, in late 2025, the agency stood up a multicomponent WMS Task Force to lead complex transitions. That approach was later tailored for Air Logistics Centers: Warner Robins, Georgia, went live in February 2026; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, in May 2026; and Hill completed the sequence this week.

DLA Distribution Hill supports the Ogden Air Logistics Complex at Hill Air Force Base, managing receiving, storage, packing and shipping for platforms including the F-16 Fighting Falcon, A-10 Thunderbolt, C-130 Hercules and intercontinental ballistic missile systems. The site also backs depot overhaul and repair operations and oversees assembly of the Army’s Deployable Medical Systems.

“The go-live process at Hill was efficient because we benefited from the experiences of the 23 sites that transitioned before us,” said James McArthur, director of DLA Distribution Hill, Utah. “By using the task force framework and integrating lessons learned from sister Air Logistics Centers, our workforce was ready on day one. WMS provides real-time inventory tracking and more efficient workflows, helping our team support the Ogden ALC and global military units with greater speed and accuracy.”

DLA Distribution leaders emphasized that the finish line for deployments marks the start of a sustained effort to refine daily performance across the enterprise. “Completing the deployment phase at Hill transitions us to our next priority, enterprise-wide stabilization,” said Joe Faris, deputy commander of DLA Distribution. “Our immediate focus is returning to standard operations across the network, refining daily processes, and utilizing the system’s full analytical features. This stabilization effort will maximize our global network’s efficiency and ensure we remain responsive and audit ready.”
