The Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Susquehanna in New Cumberland, Pennsylvania, marked the U.S. Army’s 251st birthday with a June 10 ceremony hosted by its commander, Navy Capt. Andy Henwood.

“Today, we’re celebrating our senior service within the armed forces,” Henwood said. “One of the best things about being here at DLA Distribution Susquehanna, is that you get to experience the cultures of the other branches, enjoy learning about their history and hear stories of their great leaders throughout history.”

The event’s guest speaker was Army Lt. Col. Joseph Quenga, who serves as the chief of capability programming in the Office of the Army Deputy Chief of Staff for Programs. In that role, he advises senior leaders on aligning resources with defense strategy and the modernization of the future force.

“Moments like this highlight how deeply connected the Army, the joint force and DLA truly are, sharing a foundation built on teamwork, dedication and a profound sense of service,” Quenga said. “My own time at DLA Energy taught me that DLA professionals are quiet heroes who will always find a way to accomplish the mission. Wherever the Army goes, DLA Distribution is right there with us, consistently delivering exactly what we need, right when we need it, to build and sustain our readiness.”

The ceremony concluded with a traditional cake-cutting involving Henwood, Quenga, the oldest Army veteran in attendance, Robert Jeffries, and the youngest Soldier present, Army Staff Sgt. Zachary Davies. In keeping with custom, the third slice was passed from Jeffries to Davies, a gesture intended to emphasize service across generations, the handoff of experience from elders to newer troops, and the Army’s lasting resilience.
