WASHINGTON — The Defense Logistics Agency is using the September 2026 issue of its professional journal, Loglines, to spotlight the agency’s Transformation Imperatives and how they are shaping day-to-day operations across the enterprise.
The edition surveys modernization efforts ranging from artificial intelligence to supply chain partnerships. It includes reporting on DLA Energy’s use of AI-enabled tools intended to shorten procurement timelines and strengthen warfighter readiness, DLA Disposition Services’ work with the Army to speed divestment of obsolete and duplicative equipment, and DLA Distribution’s public‑private partnerships to expand its global warehouse network and upgrade capabilities.
Coverage also details the formal stand‑up of DLA Weapons Support, a new command focused on weapons sustainment, and DLA Troop Support’s contracting strategies to ensure troops have chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear protective gear when and where it is needed.
The issue features a conversation with DLA Director Army Lt. Gen. Mark Simerly, reflecting on a 36‑year military career and his tenure leading the agency. He also discusses a paper he co‑authored that frames AI as a technology with transformative effects on warfare.
Another feature follows Assistant Secretary of War for Sustainment Brian Birdwell, tracing his recovery from life‑threatening injuries sustained at the Pentagon on 9/11, subsequent service as a Texas state senator, and return to senior leadership at the Pentagon. The edition notes that Birdwell received the Purple Heart.
The magazine’s “Get to know an NCO” profile highlights Army Master Sgt. Shawnar Thomas, who was awarded the Purple Heart after being wounded during a rapid aerial attack in March 2026 while supporting U.S. Central Command. She discusses her experiences and perspective as a noncommissioned officer.
An “I am DLA” profile introduces Stuart Doshier, depot manager for DLA Strategic Materials at the Hawthorne, Nevada, site.
The September Loglines is available in digital form on the DLA website.
