GREAT LAKES, Ill. — Vice Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Jim Kilby visited Recruit Training Command Great Lakes on July 28 to meet with new Sailors and prior-service members returning to the Fleet, according to a Navy release.
The stop highlighted the central role of RTC Great Lakes, the Navy’s sole enlisted boot camp, in preparing recruits for service and supporting the transition of experienced Sailors back to operational units. Located at Naval Station Great Lakes north of Chicago, the command is the entry point for enlisted training before graduates move on to follow-on schools or fleet assignments.
As the Navy’s second-ranking uniformed officer, Kilby is responsible for assisting the Chief of Naval Operations in overseeing readiness, personnel and policy across the service. Visits by senior leadership to training commands are a routine part of evaluating programs and engaging directly with Sailors at key points in their careers.
The Navy released a photograph of the engagement on July 28. Additional details about the visit were not immediately available.
