U.S. and Saudi forces target Iran-backed terrorist sites in Iraq

U.S. Central Command and the Saudi Arabian Armed Forces executed precision strikes in eastern Iraq on July 28, targeting Iran-aligned terrorists. These actions were taken in response to attacks directed at U.S. forces and Saudi energy infrastructure by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

The coordinated military operation involved U.S. and Saudi fighter aircraft striking multiple logistical and weapons sites associated with the terrorists. This response came after a series of over 30 IRGC-directed aerial drone attacks within a 72-hour period, characterized by high levels of aggression against U.S. forces.

Despite the attempts on July 28, the assaults against U.S. personnel were ultimately unsuccessful. For context, between February and April 2026, there were more than 600 attempted attacks on U.S. citizens and facilities by militias aligned with Iran in Iraq, underscoring the escalating conflict in the region.

Officials have issued a stern warning, indicating that the IRGC and its proxies must cease these attacks to avoid further military reprisals from the U.S.
