NAVAL BASE SAN DIEGO — The Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Lake Erie (CG 70) returned to its homeport on June 27 after 11 months at sea supporting missions in the U.S. 4th Fleet area of responsibility, according to the Navy.
A Navy photo showed the cruiser pulling into San Diego Bay on Thursday, concluding one of the service’s longer recent cruiser deployments.
U.S. 4th Fleet, headquartered in Mayport, Florida, oversees Navy operations across the Caribbean Sea and the waters off Central and South America. Its activities typically include maritime security and drug-interdiction missions, as well as exercises and training with partner nations throughout the region.
USS Lake Erie, homeported in San Diego, is equipped with the Aegis combat system and has been a mainstay of the surface fleet’s air and missile defense capability since its commissioning in 1993.
The Navy did not release additional details about the ship’s specific operations or port visits during the deployment.
