U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has conducted a new series of strikes against Iranian military targets as part of ongoing operations in the wake of escalating tensions. The latest round of strikes occurred at 9 p.m. ET on July 20, targeting military command centers, maritime capabilities, missile and drone launch sites, as well as air defense systems.
The strikes are aimed at degrading Iran’s capacity to conduct attacks on commercial vessels in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a crucial corridor for international maritime traffic. Despite the military actions, commercial vessel transits in the area have remained steady. CENTCOM reports that since early May, U.S. forces have facilitated the transit of approximately 900 commercial ships, which include the movement of around 450 million barrels of crude oil.
U.S. military officials emphasize that American forces will remain vigilant and ready to respond to any further unwarranted aggression by Iran toward civilian mariners navigating the strait.
