U.S. Forces Conduct a Strike Targeting al-Shabaab

U.S. Africa Command conducted an airstrike targeting al-Shabaab in Somalia on Sept. 24, 2026, in coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia.

The strike took place near Qumbi, about 90 kilometers north-northwest of Kismayo.

AFRICOM said it continues to work with the Somali government and Somali Armed Forces to degrade al-Shabaab’s ability to threaten U.S. forces and American citizens abroad. Details about the units and assets involved will not be released to protect operational security.
