Lockheed Martin teams with Australian Submarine Agency on Virginia-class combat systems integration

Bethesda, Md., Aug. 10, 2026 — The Australian Submarine Agency has awarded Lockheed Martin a two-year AUD$26.5 million contract to establish a sovereign combat systems integration capability for Australia’s future Virginia-class submarines under the AUKUS partnership.

The program will pair Australian engineers with U.S.-based subject-matter experts on the Virginia class to speed development and build a sustainable, locally held integration skill set for the future force.

“Australia is building a sovereign undersea capability that will serve its national security for decades to come,” said Devon Rodgers, vice president and general manager of Undersea Mission Systems at Lockheed Martin. “We’re honored to support that effort by applying our extensive combat system integration expertise to the AUKUS alliance, supporting the technical foundation for Australia’s future nuclear-powered submarines.”

Lockheed Martin, working with the agency, will assess Australia’s supply-chain requirements for the combat systems integration effort, seeking opportunities for existing and prospective local suppliers to enter the global supply chain and broaden industry partnerships.

The contract includes more than 20 new engineering roles in Western Australia to support initial work, adding to a maritime combat-systems and integrated air-and-missile-defense workforce that already numbers over 470 specialists.
